Summer storm uniform

“Is it going to rain for the rest of summer??,” reads many a concerned New Yorker’s Facebook status, and sadly this is not hyperbole. Our iPhone weather apps have predicted doom and gloom for weeks now, the thunderstorm emoticon becoming the norm. And while April showers bring May flowers, wise women everywhere know summer storms wreak hellish havoc when it comes to our hair, and more importantly wardrobe choices. Schlepping an umbrella through steamy subway stations is torture enough, but a trench coat in July? No thanks. Wellies with shorts only look good on Tweens, or Kate Moss at Glastonbury ten years ago. Make the mugginess stop. Or at least give me the right gear to withstand it.

Sonia Rykiel‘s olive anorak is our first saving grace. Light as a feather, the exaggerated size also gives it a street wise appeal that sets it apart from other sad-sack jackets on Broadway. Imagine my delight upon discovery of the sandal from the Kirna Zabete for Nine West collab specifically designed for summer rainstorms. A cross between a jelly and gladiator, you’ll be able to show off your pedicure as you puddle jump. White jeans and a striped linen tee keep it clean and crisp even on the soggiest of days. The final touch is a pop of color by way of a bright cobalt bag– the antithesis of rainy day blues.
