Current ShopGirl status: maxin’ and relaxin’! Will be back shortly after some much welcomed R&R to tackle the crucial fashion matters at hand (as in runway round-ups, and our favorite looks from Paris). For now, back to the beach.

We’re so excited to see what’s coming from LFW this year! KZ has become a home to many British designers, whose innovative textiles and fashion forward prints we eagerly anticipate each season. So if you can’t make it to foggy London Town, come visit new KZ favorite Mary Katrantzou, the print masters of Peter Pilotto, and Christopher Kane, whose brain motif is pictured here, at 477 Broome.

ny fashion week essentials

fashion week essentials

1. Editor’s blouse: Channel Carine, our favorite front row femme fatale, in a blouse that means all business, and by all business I mean all fashion. Look for sophisticated sexy details like lace that’s equal parts lady and vixen.

2. Fierce jewels: Jewelry is strong and architectural for Fall. Stow bohemian stacked bracelets and choose a bold Anndra Neen cuff or Art Deco earrings from Eddie Borgo.

3. Print set: The print of the season, literally. Fashion week is the best time to sport a full look, as we know matching is de rigueur again. Make maximum impact with minimal effort and get set!

4. Statement coat: When it comes to coats this season: go big or go home! By big, I mean big statement. Color, print, and volume (cocoon shoulders are a must)– your coat is your car in New York (Kirna once said) so invest and go bold!

5. Top handle satchel: Get your hands on the new bag shape- the top handle satchel. Alexander Wang‘s embossed croc version is a fierce choice, and with enough room for all your notes from the show, it’s actually practical.

jacket required

jacket required

Fall is imminent. It’s that time of year when women are beginning to dream of the return of layering, of coats and boots and sweaters. Dressing is interesting again. But how do we make our shopping list of key pieces we want to pepper into our wardrobe? Confusion sets in. It can be daunting to suss out your own personal style or daily go-to look these days when designers are offering such an array of styles. It’s almost as if we have to ask ourselves: Which girl do you want to be?

I say, when in doubt, go classic. Veronica Beard‘s preppy blazer and dickie combos offer wardrobe relief for those in need of a quick and versatile solution to everyday outfit trauma. The genius trick of these jackets (besides the dickies which you can switch, of course) is their tailoring, which smartens up any casual look. The styling opportunities are endless, so think beyond jeans. I’ll be wearing my blazer with my new favorite cropped cargos from 3.1 Phillip Lim, which are incidentally the pant of the season. Hint, hint. And in case they weren’t already on your list, ankle boots from Lanvin are a must this season as well. Happy Fall Shopping!

new talent

new talent

Kirna Zabête is known for fostering new and rising labels, often championing a designer from their first collection. Shop the racks in our new space and discover more fresh talent than ever. Make an avant-garde entrance in a Markus Lupfer rubber lips tee. Mix it up with rose gold headphones from Frends– designed just for us gals, darnit! Choose your new favorite statement necklace from SheBee, a line of jewelry that is folky chic (think skulls and Swarovski’s). You won’t be able to resist the new hats from Bernstock Speirs, the cashmere beanie with net overlay is as quirky as it is practical. You’ll also find a couple of familiar faces in the crowd who are new to KZ. Look for Mary Katrantzou‘s print-tastic pieces, or Nina Ricci‘s modern romance. Be pretty in pink in a plissé silk blouse or cheeky in mink pom-pom flats. Come meet your new friends.

going green

going green

Green is THE color for Fall. A bold statement you might say, but stroll the racks at 477 Broome and you’ll find a veritable fashion forest: shades of sage, olive, emerald, and forest green. Choose your hue and rock it right now, a color statement is a great way to transition into the new season. As an accessory it can be surprisingly neutral, or make an impact in a full look like this Proenza Schouler cave print set. Choose jet-black accessories so the color takes center stage. Go green!

hippie luxe redux

hippie luxe redux

Some trends have serious staying power, clinging for life in the vicious, take-no-prisoners cycle of fashion. Animal print will always be chic. Punk is forever associated with all things cool. Le smoking will always be…well, hot. While we naturally gravitate toward masculine/minimal looks in cooler months, Boho style and all it’s airy romanticism always looks right again come summer. So while the heat won’t quit and you’re suffering from end of season outfit boredom, use this time tested trend for some inspiration while getting dressed. And if its good enough for the Kate’s– Moss and Hudson have been doing it for years– it’s good enough for me.

A fresh take on Bohemian style? As is the KZ way, more is more! Pile on colors, prints and textures for a rich, artfully thrown together look that reads laid-back but oozes luxury. Layer up jewelry from Venessa Arizaga, the more silly charms the better. It’s called a wrist party. Bags should be unstructured and preferably fringed, eschew the usual neutral for a bright berry Sara Battaglia. Proenza’s tie dye tees are borrowed from the boys-cool, not Deadhead cheesy. Mother ends our futile foraging for the perfect pair of jean cut-offs. But the pièce de résistance is the army jacket topper. Once a symbol of 60s counterculture, the army jacket has had a modern makeover. Choose from updates like Figue‘s appliqués and sequins, or rabbit fur lining from 3.1 Phillip Lim. Peace and love, people.

new shop, same girl

New shop, same girl

The rumors are true, Kirna Zabête has moved. Come find us at our new location in Soho at 477 Broome, around the corner from where we laid our hat– finely appointed Maison Michel chapeau that is– for 14 years. Architectural highlights abound: Sky high ceilings, graphic black and white floors popped with pink pillars, vaulted arches that frame an expansive panorama of fabulous fashion. Come ogle the custom chandeliers, or an Instagram-worthy neon wall full of personal Kirna Zabête mantras, bon mots for a well lived life. But most importantly? Clothes for days, people.

While the new space might be grand, grandstanding isn’t our M.O. Praised by the New York Times for our “warmth and wackiness,” we’re still the same friendly girls (and a couple of boys) at your service, ready to help in any style crisis. And though we have added 25 new designers, we still champion rare and under the radar labels– the quirkier, the better. So come try on a trapeze neoprene dress from MSGM and be surprised at its Mad Men-chic factor. Be defiantly new school in Sophia Webster‘s pencil T-straps. No, those surreal leggy earrings from Yazbukey aren’t too much. Come get weird with us. Come play dress up. This is fashion, it should be fun.

embrace the lace

Embrace the lace

These lace Nicholas Kirkwood booties are everything. The marriage of ladylike lace with the sharp silhouette of an ankle boot is juxtaposition genius, the leather trim further funks it up, but the gold heel really seals the deal. I see them with my trusty black skinnies for night, or have a Bianca Jagger moment with a full trouser, and I can’t wait to pair them with a pretty cocktail dress for some attitude. These beauteous booties are glam rock perfection– made suitable for the girliest of girls.

Lace is a major trend for Pre-Fall, but one you can incorporate now. What style could be more warm weather friendly than sheer lace? Stella McCartney has proven herself master of the chic cut-out, as seen in her leggings here. Like the boots, the lace looks fresh as an unexpected detail, not to mention a a healthy dose of sexy. Sharpen up the silhouette with menswear elements like one of Stella’s signature blazers, and a Crayola blue fedora from Mason Michel.

club surf

Club Surf

Missed the plane to Miami? No ticket to St. Tropez? Not included in Ibiza? Join the club. Though you may not be jetting off to any exotic locale this summer, channel your dream beach getaway on the streets of NYC. After all, fashion is best when it’s fantasy.

Surf the Bowery in postcard-ready Hawaiian motifs, like this cheeky floral Christopher Kane. To make the look really sizzle, look for neon accessories that pack an electric punch, like these acid Tom Binns hoops and Proenza Schouler ombre bag. You’ll also need a carryall for all your surfer girl necessities– wink!– like this Meredith Wendell backpack. Proenza’s checkerboard sandals ground all these saturated hues with a graphic black and white pop that’s perfect for the club. You are now the attraction, no destination needed.
