ny fashion week essentials

fashion week essentials

1. Editor’s blouse: Channel Carine, our favorite front row femme fatale, in a blouse that means all business, and by all business I mean all fashion. Look for sophisticated sexy details like lace that’s equal parts lady and vixen.

2. Fierce jewels: Jewelry is strong and architectural for Fall. Stow bohemian stacked bracelets and choose a bold Anndra Neen cuff or Art Deco earrings from Eddie Borgo.

3. Print set: The print of the season, literally. Fashion week is the best time to sport a full look, as we know matching is de rigueur again. Make maximum impact with minimal effort and get set!

4. Statement coat: When it comes to coats this season: go big or go home! By big, I mean big statement. Color, print, and volume (cocoon shoulders are a must)– your coat is your car in New York (Kirna once said) so invest and go bold!

5. Top handle satchel: Get your hands on the new bag shape- the top handle satchel. Alexander Wang‘s embossed croc version is a fierce choice, and with enough room for all your notes from the show, it’s actually practical.

going green

going green

Green is THE color for Fall. A bold statement you might say, but stroll the racks at 477 Broome and you’ll find a veritable fashion forest: shades of sage, olive, emerald, and forest green. Choose your hue and rock it right now, a color statement is a great way to transition into the new season. As an accessory it can be surprisingly neutral, or make an impact in a full look like this Proenza Schouler cave print set. Choose jet-black accessories so the color takes center stage. Go green!

love letter to love leather

Love letter to Love Leather

Dear Love Leather,

Full disclosure? My summer wardrobe was lame until you came along. I’ll admit it. Filled with the predictable preppy pieces, the sweet cotton sundresses, and an over abundance of stripes that borders on an addiction; my closet lacked a certain edge post Memorial Day. Then you showed up in store, controversial as you were, a whole slew of leather pieces in the midst of summer. I knew just what this collection had to give me– freedom from the banal, albeit respectable, summer outfit offerings.

The key is the breeziness of these pieces, they’re wearable even in these soaring temps. I’ll be sporting the skater skirt with any of my old summer tops that are in heavy rotation for an instant update, but pair with the mesh leather tank top repping NY for Rihanna-level cool.

So thank you, Love Leather. My Soho stroll just became a strut.
