Color and Girl Power at NYFW
The weekend shows were a bold, bright testament to female empowerment.
New York Fashion Week was in full swing over the weekend, with a packed schedule that included Adam Lippes, Self Portrait, R13, Sies Marjan, and Brandon Maxwell. While every designer has their own unique inspiration, there seemed to be a common thread (or two) running through the week. One is certainly the incorporation of bright, bold hues—an unexpected and quite positive twist to the fall season that tends to be a bit darker and moodier. Another is the notion of girl power, confidence, and solidarity, in a moment of unity that coincides with the #TimesUp movement we saw surrounding the Golden Globes. Two shows that stood out in particular were Sies Marjan, where color is always a delight, this time accented by a vibrant light show, while another was Brandon Maxwell, who brought out his atelier of designers with him for his final bow alongside his supermodel cast that included Gigi and Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Ashley Graham, and more.
