Don’t call it a comeback. Michelle Ochs returns to fashion after a hiatus and departure from Cushnie Et Ochs in 2018. The former label quickly ascended fame as a slew of star-studded clients, such as Michelle Obama, flaunted the brand’s sexy silhouettes, and “Ochs” became a household name in American fashion. Today, Michelle Ochs spearheads her new brand, with a modern design ethos, prioritizing comfort and confidence, whilst reclaiming sensuality reminiscent of her past.
Q: Et Ochs reinterprets sexy silhouettes and opposing forces of femininity in a more dynamic design. How has your approach towards design evolved?
I wanted ET OCHS to be built on a foundation of impeccable fit, innovative proportions and elevated design details. ET OCHS is all about the body, the pieces are thoughtful, polished and flattering.
Q: You’ve effectively grown up in fashion, from being honored as Designer of the Year at Parsons in ‘07, to co-founding the former Cushnie et Ochs in 2008, and now launching your own brand in 2021. Having matured in this industry, how do you consider design for the modern woman?
ET OCHS speaks to the woman who owns her own individuality and has a confidence that transcends age.
Q: “Unapologetically sexy” is making its way throughout the fashion ecosystem, with cut-outs, ruching and the whole nine yards- yet your designs stand out with a more minimalist, sleek tone with unexpected, dynamic lines. How do you interpret “sexiness”?
Confidence is so sexy to me. I never want the pieces to be wearing you.
Q: Who are the Et Ochs women?
The ET OCHS woman is sophisticated and modern with a distinctive edge. She is understated and chic with a refined sense of style. She owns every room she walks into.
Q: Having built a brand before, what lessons have you learned in the awakening of your new label?
Own your own voice.
Q: Looking forward- what do you envision for the future of Et Ochs?
The future for ET OCHS is limitless. Building ET OCHS on my own terms, that is what is really exciting for me.
